Man United are not set to change their mind on a permanent deal for on-loan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, sources have told Football Insider. Football Insider revealed last month (23 April) that United have decided against activating the midfielder’s reported £21.4million option-to-buy clause. Fluid logo The Morocco international, 27, came back into Erik ten Hag’s side for the last part of the 2023-24 campaign and starred in the FA Cup final win over Man City on 25 May. Nevertheless, sources say it would be a shock if there is a late twist in United’s thinking regarding a deal for Amrabat. Club chiefs had previously concluded that the Fiorentina star is not suited to Premier League football and will not be part of the rebuild under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS. Man United unlikely to complete permanent Amrabat deal He is expected to return to the Serie A club this summer, despite recent media comments – in which he claimed staying at Old Trafford is “certainly an option”. Amrabat made 30 appearances across all competitions during his loan spell at Man United this term – which reportedly cost the club £8.5million. 17 of those outings came as part of the starting lineup, with the 27-year-old playing both at left-back and in his natural defensive midfield role. Man United Amrabat has struggled to nail down a regular place in Ten Hag’s side with Kobbie Mainoo’s emergence in midfield consigning him to the bench.
